  And that it was necessary to fix the prophetic practice and to collect it in books; thus the process of collecting, writing, and recording was completed.

  وَالْكِتَابَةِ — and the writing. 'Wa-' joins this as the second item in the 'of' chain after 'the process'. Being part of that possessive pairing it stays in the genitive, definite ('al-'), naming writing alongside collecting.
