Arabic vocabulary
How to say “to restrain” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فإن استطاع أن لا يغضب فهو الكامل، وإلا فليمسك لسانه ويده
If he can avoid getting angry, he is complete; otherwise, let him restrain his tongue and his hand.
فَلْيُمْسِكْ — let him restrain. The joined 'so' plus a command-form verb shaped by a 'let him' marker: then let him restrain. Arabic forms this third-person command by attaching the marker and clipping the verb's ending, where English uses 'let him'.
