How to say “angry” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فإن استطاع أن لا يغضب فهو الكامل، وإلا فليمسك لسانه ويده
If he can avoid getting angry, he is complete; otherwise, let him restrain his tongue and his hand.
يَغْضَبَ — get angry. A present-tense verb in the subjunctive shape, forced by the goal-particle and negated by the 'not' before it: that he not get angry. The clipped ending marks the subjunctive; the verb carries its own 'he' subject.
From: Restraining Anger →فقال إن ربي غضب غضباً لم يغضب قبله مثله، ولا يغضب بعده مثله، وإنه نهاني عن الشجرة، فعصيت، نفسي نفسي نفسي، اذهبوا إلى غيري،
He said: "My Lord has become angry with an anger unlike any anger before or after. He forbade me from the tree, and I disobeyed. Myself, myself, myself! Go to someone else."
يَغْضَبْ — any anger. A present-tense verb with 'he' inside it, pulled into the past and shortened (jussive) by the negation word before it. The clipped ending is the fingerprint of that negator, and the sense is 'he never grew angry'.
From: The Prophet's Intercession →فقال إن ربي غضب غضباً لم يغضب قبله مثله، ولا يغضب بعده مثله، وإنه نهاني عن الشجرة، فعصيت، نفسي نفسي نفسي، اذهبوا إلى غيري،
He said: "My Lord has become angry with an anger unlike any anger before or after. He forbade me from the tree, and I disobeyed. Myself, myself, myself! Go to someone else."
يَغْضَبُ — anger. A present-tense verb with 'he' inside it, kept in present form here to reach into the future under the negation before it: 'nor will he grow angry'. The subject is carried in the verb, and the negator scopes the meaning forward.
From: The Prophet's Intercession →فيقول لهم إن ربي غضب اليوم غضباً لم يغضب قبله مثله، ولن يغضب بعده مثله، وإني كنت كذبت ثلاث كذبات، نفسي نفسي نفسي، اذهبوا إلى غيري،
He will say to them: "My Lord has become angry today with an anger like none before or after. Indeed, I told three lies. Myself, myself, myself! Go to someone else."
يَغْضَبْ — has become angry. Present in shape but, under the preceding negator, read as a past denial with a shortened ending; the 'he' subject sits inside it. The pairing of negator plus this clipped form is how Arabic says 'he did not get angry'.

يَغْضَبَ — has become angry. Driven by the future-negator before it, this present verb takes the lighter ending that negator forces and is read as 'will (never) be angry'. The 'he' subject is carried inside; mood and meaning both come from the particle.

He will say: "My Lord has become angry today with an anger like none before or after. Indeed, I killed a person whom I was not commanded to kill. Myself, myself, myself! Go to someone else."
