And a man said to Abdullah ibn Umar.
عُمَرِ — Umar. The father's name closing the lineage chain. It is the final owned link, so it carries the genitive object ending forced both by 'son of' before it and, further back, by the preposition li- that governs the entire name. Reading it as the chain's end tells you whose son the man addressed is.
From: Honoring Parents →فَقَالَ مَنْ تَرَوْنَهُ غَيْرٌ عُمَرِ
He said, "Who do you see besides Umar?"
عُمَرِ — Umar. A proper name in the genitive, governed by 'other than' before it, completing 'other than Umar'. Its case is set by that governing word.
