How to say “words” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ دَعْنِي أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ يَنْفَعُكَ اللَّهُ بِهَا
He said, "Let me teach you words by which God will benefit you."
كَلِمَاتٍ — words. An indefinite feminine plural noun, the direct object of 'teach', made plural by an ending Arabic adds for many feminine words. Its lack of 'the' leaves the words unspecified for now; a relative clause after it will describe their benefit.
From: The Verse of the Throne →قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ زَعَمَ أَنَّهُ يُعَلِّمُنِي كَلِمَاتٍ،
I said, O Messenger of God, he claims that he will teach me some words.
كَلِمَاتٍ — some words. A plural noun left indefinite, marked by the two-line ending that signals 'some' rather than 'the'. It is the thing being taught and stands as the verb's object; the indefinite marking is what makes it 'some words' instead of a specific set.
