Arabic vocabulary
How to say “and bear witness to us” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ فَإِشْهَدِي اللَّهَ وَأَشْهِدِينَا أَنَّكَ قَدْ رَضِيتَ عَنْهُ
He said, "Then bear witness to God and to us that you have been pleased with him."
وَأَشْهِدِينَا — and bear witness to us. The opening wa- simply adds this to the previous command, so it is a second 'bear witness' joined to the first. The tail -na attached to the verb is the object 'us', folded right onto the verb instead of standing as a separate word. Arabic routinely glues the receiver of an action onto the end of the verb like this, so one written word equals a verb plus its object.
