How to say “ask for forgiveness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
O son of Adam! If your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky and then you were to ask for My forgiveness, I would forgive you.
ٱسْتَغْفَرْتَنِي — you were to ask for My forgiveness. The shape with 'ista-' at the front means to seek or ask for something — here to seek forgiveness. It carries 'you' (-ta) as the seeker and 'Me' (-ni) as the one asked; the past form continues the hypothetical begun by 'even if'.
