  And some of the Companions said that the believer drives away his devil as one of you drives off his camel on a journey.

  الْمُؤْمِنَ — the believer. A definite noun pushed into the accusative by the emphasizer before it, even though it is the topic of its clause. This accusative-after-emphasis is a hallmark of clauses opened by that particle.

  And by that a man does not become a believer, as God the Exalted said:

  مُؤْمِنًا — a believer. A noun in the accusative naming what the man does not turn into: a believer. The 'becoming' verb marks this completing description with the accusative, which is how you tell it from the subject.

  مُؤْمِنًا — a believer. An indefinite noun 'a believer' (no al- 'the'), the object of 'kills' and set in the accusative (object) form. Its indefinite shape keeps it general - any believer at all. As the receiver of the killing it marks who is wronged in the supposed crime.
