وَقَالَ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ كَانَتْ لِيَّ بِنْتُ عَمٍّ كَانَتْ أَحْبَّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ،
And the other said, "O Allah, I had a paternal cousin; she was the dearest of people to me."
أَحْبَّ — dearest. A comparison word in the 'most/more' shape, heading a 'dearest of' pairing. It leans onto the following noun to say 'dearest of the people', the elative form carrying the superlative force English spells out with 'most'.
