The example of the birth, growth, and increase of obedience is like a seed you plant, which becomes a tree, then it bears fruit, and you eat its fruit and plant its seeds,
فَأَكَلْتَ — and you eat. fa- = 'so, then'; past-tense verb 'ate', 'you' form (the '-ta' = you) — 'and you ate'.

أَكَلَ — he ate. A past-tense verb meaning 'ate', with 'he' built in, describing the action of the one being compared. It heads the clause explaining who that person is; the subject is encoded in the verb.
