How to say “exile” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ حَمَلْتُهَا عَلَى ظَهْرِي، وَحَبَسْتُ نَفْيًا عَلَيْهَا؟
Did I not already carry her on my back and spare her from exile?
نَفْيٌ — exile. This noun, 'banishment / exile', is the object of 'withheld', the thing he claims to have spared her. Its object-style ending marks it as what the verb acted upon. So the man boasts he kept exile away from her, completing his self-defense.
