How to say “my back” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ حَمَلْتُهَا عَلَى ظَهْرِي، وَحَبَسْتُ نَفْيًا عَلَيْهَا؟
Did I not already carry her on my back and spare her from exile?
ظَهْرِيِ — my back. This noun, 'back', has the 'my' pronoun on its end and sits in the genitive because the 'on' before it governs it. Arabic attaches the owner straight onto the noun. So 'on my back' is built from a preposition plus a possessed noun in the genitive.
