وإنما يراد من ذكرهم شرْح أحوالهم وأخلاقهم ليقتدي بها السالك،
The purpose of mentioning them is to explain their states and morals, so that the seeker may emulate them.
شَرْحُ — to explain. A verbal noun, 'explaining / setting out', the real subject naming what is intended, and it heads a possessive pairing with 'their states' after it. As the leading noun it takes no 'the' and leans onto what it owns.
