How to say “fast” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَتُؤْتِيَ الزَّكَاةَ، وَتَصُومَ رَمَضَانَ، وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ إنْ اسْتَطَعْت إلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا
And give the obligatory charity, fast during Ramadan, and perform the pilgrimage to the House if you are able to find a way to it.
وَتَصُومَ — and fast. Another 'and'-fronted present verb 'and you fast', parallel to its neighbours and held in the subjunctive by the list-opening particle. Its 'you' subject is internal to the verb. It adds the next item to the running enumeration of religious duties.
