الجَرَيَانُ — the flow. A verbal noun made definite by al-, 'the flowing', standing as the subject of the passive verb, hence its subject ending. It names the act of flowing as the thing not intended.

جَرَيانَ — the flow. The thing known, so it takes the object ending, and it heads an 'of' pairing, 'the flow of destinies'. The two nouns sit directly together with no word for 'of', and this first one stays without 'the' because its definiteness comes from the owner after it.
