How to say “following” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فاسدة كان عمله تابعًا لسريرته لا اعتبار بصورته فتبدو سريرته على وجهه سوادا وظلمة وشينا
His deeds were corrupt, following his inner self; no regard was paid to his outward appearance, so his inner state appeared on his face as blackness, darkness, and ugliness.
تابعًا — following. This is an active participle, a noun-like word naming the doer of an action, here 'one that follows', standing as the accusative predicate of 'was'. The accusative ending is the copula's mark on its predicate, and the participle describes the deed as conforming to the inner self.
