How to say “for us” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ وَوَفَى لِنَا
He said, and he fulfilled for us.
لِنَا — for us. A 'for/to' preposition fused with 'us', marking the group who benefited from the fulfilment. The single word bundles both the direction and the first-person plural.
From: A Night with the Prophet →شَفِّعْ لِنَا إِلَى رَبِّنَا
Intercede for us with our Lord.
لِنَا — for us. A small preposition with -na ('us') fused on, 'for us', marking who benefits from the requested intercession. The preposition forces the pronoun into its object-of-preposition shape and pins down the beneficiaries, the speakers themselves. So it tells us on whose behalf the plea is made.
From: Intercession on Judgment Day →ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ رَجُلٌ يَذْهَبُ فَيَعْلَمُ لِنَا عِلْمَ الْقَوْمِ
Then he said, 'There is a man who goes and learns the people's knowledge for us.'
لِنَا — for us. This is the preposition 'for' plus the ending 'us', flagging the people the errand benefits. The preposition assigns the beneficiary role: the man would learn on their behalf. The fused pronoun makes one word do the work of 'for us'.
