فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ وَجَبَتْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ،
Then a man from the people said, "It has become necessary, O Prophet of God,"
الْقَوْمِ — the people. The al- prefix makes this definite, the specific company. After the preposition it takes the genitive shape, naming the group the man is drawn from.
