How to say “four” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فهذه أربع صفات أخرجتهم من زمرة المفلحين وأدخلتهم في جملة الهالكين
So, these are four traits that removed them from the group of the successful and placed them among the doomed.
أَرْبَعُ — four. This is the number 'four' and opens a possessive pairing with the next word: four traits. Arabic ties the counted noun to the number in a chain like this; the number governs the noun that names what is counted.
From: Prayer and Charity →يَقُول الله يَا ابْن آدم إِنَّمَا هِيَ ارْبَعْ وَاحِدَة لي وَوَاحِدَة لَك وَوَاحِدَة بيني وَبَيْنك وَوَاحِدَة بَيْنك وَبَين خلقي
Allah says, 'O son of Adam, there are four things: one for Me, one for you, one between Me and you, and one between you and My creation.'
أَرْبَعٌ — four. This is the number 'four', here indefinite and serving as the description completing 'they are four'. As the predicate of a subject with no verb, it takes the plain subject ending in the equation.
