How to say “hide” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
حين تسكتُ قليلًا، تسمعُ بوضوحٍ ما يقوله عقلك وما يخفيه قلبك
When you are silent for a while, you clearly hear what your mind says and what your heart hides.
يُخْفِيهِ — hides it. A Form IV verb, 'conceals it,' with '-hi' resuming 'what' — 'what... it hides.' Its subject, 'your heart,' follows. The contrast is the point: the mind SPEAKS, the heart HIDES; silence lets you catch both.
From: On Silence →أي تختبر وقال مقاتل تظهر وتبدو وبلوت الشيء إذا اختبرته ليظهر لك باطنه وما خفى منه
Meaning, they will be tested, and Muqatil said: they will appear and be revealed. You say you have tested something to uncover its hidden parts and what was concealed.
خَفِيَ — was concealed. A past-tense verb meaning 'was hidden', sitting inside the relative clause opened by the previous 'what'. Its subject is the unstated 'that which', and the verb's own shape carries the third-person doer, so no separate pronoun is written. It describes a completed state of being concealed.
