Arabic vocabulary
How to say “in winter” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ كَانَتْ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ عَنْهُمْ جُنَّتُهُمْ شِتَاءً وَلَا صَيْفًا
He said, their gardens never failed them, neither in winter nor in summer.
شِتَاءً — in winter. A noun used adverbially for time, 'in winter', sitting in the object-style ending that Arabic uses to turn a noun into a 'when' marker without any preposition. So the bare ending alone does the work English needs 'in' for, pinning the gardens' constancy to the winter season.
