How to say “inclination” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَيْسَ كَذَٰلِكَ؛ لِأَنَّ مِثْلُ الطَّبْعِ فِي مَيْلِهِ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا كَالْمَاءِ الْجَارِيِ،
But that is not so; for the disposition, in its inclination toward the world, is like flowing water,
مَيْلِهِ — its inclination. A noun ('leaning/inclination') with the suffix '-hu' fused on its end as 'its', so the possessor is glued to the word rather than written separately. The pronoun reaches back to the disposition, marking whose inclination is meant, and the whole sits in the genitive after 'in'.
