Arabic vocabulary
How to say “loved” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
والذي نفس محمد بيده لوددت أن أغزو في سبيل الله فأقتل،
By the One in whose hand is Muhammad's soul, I would love to fight in the cause of Allah and be killed,
لَوَدِدْتُ — I would love. This carries an emphatic la- prefix on a past-tense verb with the 'I' subject built in, 'I would surely love'. The la- is an oath-answering stress, the 'truly/surely' that follows a vow, lending the wish strong force; the speaker is folded into the verb.
