Arabic vocabulary
How to say “lying down” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ابْنُ صَيَّادٍ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ مُضْطَجِعٌ،
The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, saw the son of Sayyad while he was lying down.
مُضْطَجِعٌ — lying down. An active participle describing a posture, working like an adjective frozen from a verb. After the 'while he' opener it gives the state the person was in, supplying the ongoing condition that surrounds the main action without itself being a tensed verb.
