Arabic vocabulary
How to say “make deaf” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فإياكم وفضول المطعم، فإنه يسم القلب بالقسوة، ويبطئ بالجوارح عن الطاعة، ويصم الأذان عن السماع للموعظة،
Beware of excess in food, for it marks the heart with hardness, slows the limbs from obedience, and deafens the ears from hearing admonition.
لِلْمَوْعِظَةِ — for the admonition. The 'li-' here means 'to/for' and links the listening to its target, forcing the genitive; with 'al-' the admonition is made definite. It marks what the hearing would have been directed toward.
