How to say “men” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول انطلق ثلاثة نفر ممن كان قبلكم حتى آواهم المبيت إلى غار فدخلوه،
I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, say: 'Three men from those before you set out, and night forced them to take shelter in a cave. They entered it.'
نَفَرٍ — men. This noun is the thing being counted by 'three', so it appears in the singular-shaped 'of' (genitive) form that this counting pattern requires, even though it means several people. It completes the number phrase as the head subject of the verb.
