How to say “perceive / notice” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَحَكَى غَيْرُ الْمَأْمُونِ أَنَّ السَّجَّانُ فَطِنَ لِإِرْتِفَاقِهِ بِالْمِصْبَاحِ فِي تَسْخِينِ الْمَاءِ،
And another narrator, not al-Ma'mun, reported that the jailer noticed his staying close by the lamp in heating the water.
فَطِنَ — he noticed. This is a completed-action verb meaning 'caught on / became aware', with its 'he' subject built in. It reports the jailer's realization as a single past event. It then leans on the 'for / because of' phrase that follows to name what he noticed.
