Arabic vocabulary
How to say “scattered” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَيَا شِدَّةَ الْحَسْرَةِ عِنْدَمَا يُعَايِنُ الْمُبْطِلُ سَعْيَهُ وَكَدَّهُ هَبَاءً مَنْثُورًا،
O, what intense regret when the one whose efforts are nullified witnesses his striving and his toil scattered like dust.
مَنْثُورًا — scattered. A passive participle, 'scattered', describing the dust as something that has been strewn about. As a passive participle it casts the dust as acted-upon, blown apart, and its accusative ending agrees with the 'dust' it modifies. It completes the image of effort dispersed to nothing.
