How to say “sign” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
شَدِيدُ سَوَادِ الشَّعْرِ، لَا يُرَى عَلَيْهِ أَثَرُ السَّفَرِ، وَلَا يَعْرِفُهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ
His hair is intensely black; he shows no sign of travel, and none of us recognizes him.
أَثَرُ — sign. A noun, 'trace / sign', that is the delayed subject of the passive 'is seen'; its -u ending marks it as what is (not) seen. It heads an 'of' pairing with 'travel' that follows.
