How to say “spy” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
ولا تجسسوا ولا تنافسوا،
And do not spy, and do not compete with each other,
تَجَسَّسُوا — you spy. A present-tense verb with the 'you all' subject folded into its ending and the reflexive pattern that here means spying or prying. The prohibition word before it puts it in the jussive shape, the special clipped ending Arabic uses for negative commands, so the form itself signals that this is something forbidden.
From: Avoid Envy and Suspicion →وفي رواية لا تحاسدوا، ولا تباغضوا، ولا تجسسوا، ولا تحسسوا ولا تناجشوا وكونوا عباد الله إخوانًا
And in a version: 'Do not envy, do not hate, do not spy, do not look for faults, do not artificially raise bids, and be, O servants of Allah, brothers.'
تَجَسَّسُوا — you spy. A plural reflexive-pattern verb meaning to spy or pry, with 'you all' built in. The prohibition before it holds it in the jussive shape that marks the action as forbidden.
