Arabic vocabulary
How to say “stand” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمَنْ لَمْ يَقِفْ عِنْدَ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ وَنَهْيِهِ فَلَيْسَ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ
And whoever does not stand by God's command and prohibition is not among the pious.
يَقِفْ — he stands. A present-tense verb sitting in its shortened form because the 'did-not' particle before it demands that clipped ending. That clipping is the visible sign the verb is being negated into the past. With the following preposition it builds 'stand by / adhere to'.
