How to say “the amount” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَبَعْدُ، فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يَتَفَاوَتُونَ فِي الْعَقْلَيْنِ وَجَوْهَرِهِ وَمِقْدَارِ مَا أَعْطَوْا مِنْهُ،
Furthermore, people differ in the two intellects, in its very essence, and in the amount of it that they were given.
وَمِقْدَارِ — and the amount. The wa- adds a third coordinated respect of difference, and this noun is itself the head of an 'of' pairing that runs into the relative clause ahead. Coordinated onto the earlier genitive items, it keeps the (genitive) ending. So it both extends the list and opens a 'the amount of what...' possessive chain.
