How to say “the Companions” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَغَدًا الصَّحَابَةُ الْكِرَامُ رِجَالُهُمْ وَنِسَاءُهُمْ يَسْأَلُونَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
So the next morning the noble Companions, both men and women among them, asked the Messenger of God.
الصَّحَابَةُ — the Companions. Carries al- ('the'), making it specific, and is the doer of the asking that comes later in the sentence — the named subject. The definiteness marks the Companions as a known, particular group. The verb describing what they did follows further on, with this naming the agents.
