رَأَى الْعُلَمَاءُ وَالْأَئِمَّةُ النُجَبَاءُ أَنَّ الاِعْتِمَادَ عَلَى الْحِفْظِ وَحْدِهِ لَا يَكْفِي،
The scholars and the eminent imams concluded that relying on memorization alone is not sufficient.
وَالْأَئِمَّةُ — and the imams. 'Wa-' adds a second subject coordinated with 'the scholars'. With 'al-' it is definite and plural, carrying the -u subject ending; the two nouns together form the compound subject of the verb 'held the view'.
