Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the pledge” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
يَغْدُو عَلَيَّ الْخُبْزُ مِنْ خَابِزٍ لَا يَقْبَلُ الرَهْنَ وَلَا يَنْسَى،
Bread comes to me in the morning from a baker who neither accepts pledges nor overlooks debts.
الرَهْنَ — the pledge. The al- makes this definite, 'the' pledge, the specific known thing. It is the receiver-of-the-action of 'accept', so it wears the accusative object ending, marking it as what the baker will not take.
