Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the Yathribi” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَالَتْ لَهُ يَا أَبَا صَفْوَانَ وَقَدْ نَسِيتَ مَا قَالَ لَكَ أَخُوكَ الْيَثْرِبِيُّ
She said to him, "O Abu Safwan, have you indeed forgotten what your brother the Yathribi told you?"
الْيَثْرِبِيُّ — the Yathribi. The al- makes it definite, and this is an origin-adjective ('the one from Yathrib') describing the brother before it. It agrees with him in definiteness, marking which brother by his hometown.
