How to say “Throne” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
أشهدك ملكا قيوما فَوق سماواته على عَرْشه
He makes you witness a Sovereign, Ever-Living, above His heavens on His Throne,
عَرْشِهِ — His Throne. 'Throne' with '-hi' (His) attached, genitive after 'on'. The seat of His sovereignty.
From: God's Majesty →﴿فَتَعَالَى اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّ لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ﴾
Exalted is Allah, the True Sovereign; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
الْعَرْشِ — of the Throne. This completes the pairing as the owned thing, of the Throne, and so it sits in the genitive that the second slot of such chains requires. Its definiteness, marked by 'al-', also passes back to lend definiteness to the whole Lord-of-the-Throne unit.
From: False Prophets →أيها الناس، إن الله خلق السموات والأرض في ستة أشهر، ثم استوى على العرش
O people, indeed Allah created the heavens and the earth in six months, then rose over the Throne.
الْعَرْشِ — the Throne. This is 'the Throne', definite with 'al-'. It takes the genitive ending because the preposition 'over' before it governs it into that case. It names the place the rising settled upon, completing the location phrase.
