فَحَلَفَ أَنْ يَتَحَوَّلَ عَنْهُمْ وَيُسْتَبْدَلُوا بِدَارِهِ
So he swore that he would turn away from them and that they would be replaced in his household.
يتَحَوَّل — he would turn away. Present-tense verb in its subjunctive shape, the ending changed because the 'to' particle before it demands that form, with 'he' inside. It names the first sworn act: that he would move away.

And he bore it, with its weight and his dependents, then he turned away from them.
فَتَحَوَّلَ — so he turned away. Consecutive fa- ('and so') on a past-tense verb of turning-away, 'he' inside it. The fa- sequences the departure as the result of having gathered up his burden.
