How to say “types” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ورجل وسع الله عليه، وأعطاه من أصناف المال، فأتي به فعرفه نعمه، فعرفها قال فما عملت فيها ؟
And a man whom Allah made wealthy and to whom He gave all kinds of wealth. He will be brought, and Allah will make him recognize His blessings, and he will recognize them. He will say: 'What did you do with them?'
أَصْنَافِ — types of. This is a plural noun meaning 'kinds/sorts', and it stands as the first half of an 'of' possessive pairing with the word for wealth right after it. Two nouns set side by side like this express 'the kinds of [the] wealth' with no separate word for 'of'. Because the preposition before it governs the whole phrase, this noun sits in the genitive (the 'of' form), and it in turn passes that grip on to the noun it owns.
