Arabic vocabulary
How to say “wealth” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ورجل وسع الله عليه، وأعطاه من أصناف المال، فأتي به فعرفه نعمه، فعرفها قال فما عملت فيها ؟
And a man whom Allah made wealthy and to whom He gave all kinds of wealth. He will be brought, and Allah will make him recognize His blessings, and he will recognize them. He will say: 'What did you do with them?'
المَالِ — wealth. This noun carries al- 'the', marking it as definite, and it is the second, owning half of the 'of' pairing begun by 'kinds'. In such a pairing only the final noun keeps its 'the', and its definiteness then spreads back to colour the whole phrase as 'the kinds of the wealth'. Sitting as the owned-by member, it takes the genitive ('of') ending.
