When you looked into the book 'Adornment of the Saints' by Abu Nu'aym al-Isfahani, you were impressed by the mention of the righteous and the virtuous.
وَالأَخْيَارِ — and the virtuous. The connector 'and' joined to a second definite noun, 'the virtuous', extending what was mentioned. It runs parallel to 'the righteous' and shares the same owned-by ending under the earlier 'mention of'.
