Arabic vocabulary
How to say “you sit” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ إِذَا جَلَسْتَ الْيَوْمَ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ
Then he said to him, 'If you sit in the council today.'
جَلَسْتَ — you sit. Past-shaped verb with 'you' (one male) in its ending, but under the condition-word it reads as a future 'when you sit'. Arabic regularly uses the completed shape after this 'when' to describe a not-yet-real event.
