How to say “adorn themselves” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَتَزَيَّنْ الْعِبَّادُ بِزِينَةٍ أَبْلَغِ فِيمَا عِنْدِي مِنَ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا،
And know that the servants have never adorned themselves with an ornament more effective, in my view, than asceticism in the world.
يَتَزَيَّنْ — adorn themselves. This verb is built on a reflexive pattern, so the subjects do the adorning to themselves, and it sits in the clipped (jussive) form demanded by the 'have not' particle before it. The reflexive shape is what makes 'adorn themselves' rather than 'adorn'. The negation word dictates the trimmed ending.
