Arabic vocabulary
How to say “and know” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَتَزَيَّنْ الْعِبَّادُ بِزِينَةٍ أَبْلَغِ فِيمَا عِنْدِي مِنَ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا،
And know that the servants have never adorned themselves with an ornament more effective, in my view, than asceticism in the world.
وَاعْلَمْ — and know. This is a command verb, 'know', with the 'and' connector (wa-) fused to its front. The wa- links the instruction to the surrounding speech, and the imperative form directs the listener to take the following statement to heart. So one word both connects and gives the order.
