How to say “al-Khayl” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
اِحْبِسْ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ عِنْدَ حَطْمِ الْخَيْلِ
Detain Abu Sufyan at Hatm al-Khayl.
الْخَيْلِ — the al-Khayl. The second element of the place-name 'Hatm al-Khayl', carrying the article 'the' and standing as the owner half of that pairing in the genitive. The two parts side by side form one fixed location name.
From: Conquest of Mecca Account →فَقُتِلَ مِنْ خَيْلِ خَالِدِ يَوْمَئِذٍ رَجُلَانِ
So two men from Khalid's horsemen were killed that day.
خَيْلِ — horsemen of. This is the first noun of an 'of' possessive pairing with the name that follows: the horsemen belong to Khalid. Standing as the first link, it drops any 'the' of its own and leans on the owner-name behind it for definiteness, and its genitive ending comes from the preposition before it.
From: Conquest of Mecca Account →أَيْنَ أَحْلَاسُ الْخَيْلِ أَيْنَ الْفُرْسَانُ فَيُقَدِّمُونَكُمْ
Where are the steeds of the horses? Where are the horsemen? Then they will bring you forward.
الْخَيْلِ — of the horses. This definite noun is the owner half of the pair begun before it, in the genitive 'of' slot, completing a 'of the horses' chain. Its 'the' marks the whole pairing as definite. Its place right behind the head noun supplies the 'of' link with no separate word.
