Arabic vocabulary
How to say “and is not” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَيْسَتْ قُوَّةُ الشَّيْطَانِ بِأَكْثَرِ قُوَّةٍ مِنْ مَغْفِرَةِ الرَّحْمَنِ فِي قُلُوبِ أَهْلِ الإِيمَانِ
Satan's power is not greater than the forgiveness of the Merciful in the hearts of the believers.
وَلَيْسَتْ — and is not. This joins the linker 'wa-' to a negative verb of being marked feminine ('and is not'). The 'wa-' ties the sentence onto the passage, and the feminine ending is chosen to agree with the feminine subject 'power' that follows, an example of verb-subject gender matching.
