Arabic vocabulary
How to say “approach” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَالَ لِي لَنْ يَزَالَ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ حَافِظٌ وَلَا يَقْرَبَكَ شَيْطَانٌ حَتَّى تُصْبِحَ،
He said to me, "A guardian from God will not cease to be upon you, and no devil will come near you until morning."
يَقْرَبَكَ — he comes near you. A verb of approaching with the 'you' object built onto its end, so one word holds the act, an unstated devil-subject, and the listener as target. Falling under the negation just before it, it asserts no devil comes near the addressee.
