How to say “before” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ ذَلِكَ مَكْتُوبًا عَلَيَّ قِبَلَ أَنْ أَخْلُقَ؟
So did you find that written about me before I was created?
قِبَلٍ — before. This word functions adverbially to mean 'before', marking precedence in time and leading into the clause that follows. It sets up 'before I was created', anchoring the writing of the decree to a point prior to the speaker's existence.
From: Patience Under Decree →وَأَبْدَى مَضْجَعٌ سِوَاكَ قِبَلَ المَمَّاتِ مَضْجَعُكَ،
And he revealed a resting place other than you before death revealed your resting place.
قِبَلَ — before. An adverb of time meaning 'before', placed to order the events: this happens prior to the next. It forces the noun after it into the 'of...' ending, marking 'death' as the point in time the action precedes. So it sequences the two revealings.
