Arabic vocabulary
How to say “Beware” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال إياكم والظن، فإن الظن أكذب الحديث،
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: 'Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the most false of speech.'
إيّاكم — Beware. This is a warning word that already contains its object 'you', so one Arabic word means roughly 'guard yourselves against'. It is a fixed cautioning construction that puts the thing to avoid in the object form, which is why the following noun is shaped as an object even though there is no ordinary verb in front of it.
