How to say “bold” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
ورجل قاتل وجاهد ليقول الناس هو شجاع وجريء،
And a man who fought and struggled for people to say: He is brave and bold,
وَجَرِيءٌ — and bold. 'And' plus a second predicate adjective, parallel and indefinite nominative. The pair 'brave and bold' is the reputation that was his true aim.
From: Deeds for God Alone →قال قاتلت فيك حتى اسُتشهدت، قال كذبت، ولكنك قاتلت لأن يقال جريء، فقد قيل، ثم أمر به، فسحب على وجهه حتى ألقي في النار
He will say: 'I fought for You until I was martyred.' He will say: 'You lie. You fought so that it would be said you are brave; and so it was said.' Then it will be commanded that he be dragged on his face until he is cast into the Fire.
جَرِيءٌ — brave. This noun is the content of what would be said about him, standing as the predicate of the passive 'it would be said', so it takes the plain (nominative) ending. Its indefinite form gives the bare label, 'brave', the praise he sought.
